Having served the MCA as a volunteer security guard during its community Iftars (breakfasts,) DSBE's founder had the unusual privilege as a brother to enter the Sister's Prayer Hall of the MCA to assure the mosque's security and to look after the children the brothers had brought to the mosque while they enjoyed their communal breakfast.

In so doing, he was able to see the sacred books collected in the Sisters' Prayer Hall and note their inequity with those collected in the Brothers' where he prayed.

As he also volunteered on the MCA's Library Committee, gathered his own collection of Qu'rans and other sacred texts, and has been a life-long advocate of post-feminist ethics, this led to his resolution to improve the collection of sacred texts in the Sisters' Prayer Halls of both the MCA and its sister masjid an-Nur to underscore the importance of education, literacy, and fairness which has consequently become a plank of DSBE's philanthropy platform.
